Bolivia is a country in the Latin America region. According to 2017 data from Bolivia’s National Institute of Statistics (Instituto Nacional de Estadistica), it comprises 11,145,770 inhabitants, with a similar gender distribution among men (50.4%) and women (49.6%), high birth rates (22.4 per 1,000), and 16% of the population under 14 years of age. Its population is distributed between 67.5% in urban areas and 32.5% in rural areas, concentrating more than 70% of the total population within the so-called Central Axis, corresponding to the Departments of La Paz (2.8 millions), Cochabamba (1.9 millions), and Santa Cruz (3 millions).
