The Commonwealth of the Bahamas is an archipelago of over 7,000 islands, keys, and islets covering 100,000 square miles of ocean. Of the 7,000 islands, only 22 are inhabited. Among the total population of approximately 400,000, the majority of the people live on New Providence and in Freeport, Grand Bahama Island. The remaining around 50,000 people are dispersed on the Out Islands with access to the government offices in Nassau by boat or by plane.
