Star India is a pay television service owned by 21st Century Fox that operates channels reaching an estimated 650 million viewers each month in India and elsewhere. It was founded as part of an Asian television service based in Hong Kong called Star TV, an abbreviation for Satellite Television Asian Region. Star TV was founded by business magnet Li Ka-shing in August 1991 and in 1993 was taken over by the media baron Rupert Murdoch and became part of News Corporation. News Corporation later spun off most of its film and television properties as 21st Century Fox.
