Social Justice

Social justice strives toward empowerment of all persons through equitable access to resources, legal standing to challenge wrongdoing, and right to recourse that might alter society to address past harm and, potentially, reduce or avert future harm.

In itself, justice is a complex concept to define. Some have suggested that there need not be a distinction between social justice and justice imagined more generally. Still, in practice, it is customary to describe justice as the fair treatment of all under the law. The term social justice raises possibilities of fair treatment for all persons in a context wider than is encompassed by current law. In other words, there are issues untouched by law or overlooked in the law’s concepts of jurisdiction and purview.
