The term online radio is one of many used to denote a service that delivers radio content (e.g., talk shows, music programs, news bulletins, documentaries) over the Internet, live streamed or on demand. Synonymous terms include Internet radio, web radio, net radio, streaming radio, and e-radio, while the term webcasting is used for the distribution of any media content over the Internet using streaming technologies. Streaming technologies typically do not allow content management by the recipient and do not require completing the download of a file to start the playback (since the content is played while being delivered). Streaming technologies therefore represent a form of distribution similar to radio or television transmission through the airwaves.
