History

In 1878, disseminating news in the Indian subcontinent under British colonial rule was carried out by a press commissioner. In 1910, the news agency Associated Press of India was set up; after 9 years, Reuters took it over. Another agency, the United Press of India, began in Calcutta (Kolkata) in 1933. In 1945, Associated Press of India, with Reuters as owner, registered as an Indian company.
