Peru is a South American country that combines the diverse geography of the Pacific Ocean coastline and the high Andes mountains. The country borders Ecuador to the north and Bolivia and Chile to the south, with rainforests and lower mountain ranges in the eastern borders with Brazil and Colombia. Peru is one of the countries in Latin America with the largest Amerindian presence. In the census conducted by the National Institute of Statistics in 2017, more than 22% of the population identified themselves as Quechua and around 2.5% as Aymara.
