Online News Sites

News sites on the Internet either appear exclusively online or are digital versions of print products. The difference between the two is significant, as the legacy mass media offshoots are able to recycle the existing media offer and already have institutionalised structures—sales, marketing, editorial department, and contacts—at their disposal. They are often regarded as more professional, reliable, and consistent than online-only websites.

Unlike websites associated with newspapers, purely online news sites are not subsidiaries of existing print products. As news platforms that only exist online do not incur printing and distribution costs, they are considerably cheaper to produce.
