Montenegro is a republic located in the southeast of Europe, precisely in the Western Balkans. The country can be divided into three regions: the Adriatic coast to the southwest, the central part, and the rugged mountain terrain to the northeast. Montenegro borders Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, and Albania. Ethnically, it is quite diverse, comprised of Montenegrins (45%), Serbs (29%), Bosnians (9%), Albanians (5%), and others (9%). Similarly, its religious composition is heterogeneous, with 72% Orthodox, 19% Muslim, 3% Catholic, and 5% others. Nearly one third of its total population of approximately 623,000 is concentrated in the capital city, Podgorica (one of the 21 municipalities in total).
