Nudity: Beliefs and Values
Nudity is defined as the act of being naked, and can include full nudity or partial nudity/being partially clothed. There are differences in familial and cultural beliefs surrounding nudity, as well as some countercultures for which nudity is a main focus. For the purposes of this discussion, those subcultures are referred to as nudists. This entry discusses nudity in the family, nudity and intimacy, and nudism.
Nudity in Family Systems
An understanding of social standards and cultural norms surrounding nudity is essential for marriage and family counselors. In addition, an awareness of their own values regarding nudity is paramount and can be impactful in regard to how the counselor may draw boundaries regarding duty to report when nudity within a family may be inappropriate.
