Integrative Couples Therapy
There are numerous theories that influence the work of marriage and family therapists. Integration is the process of combining the many techniques and perspectives from various theoretical orientations in order to produce a consistent and effective treatment strategy for a specific client. Integration has the benefit of addressing concerns and influences in couple’s relationships from a multitude of theoretical orientations. There is nothing inherently wrong with guiding counseling through the lens of a single theory; however, by integrating multiple theoretical viewpoints, a couple’s counselor is able to expand their perspective on the couple’s presenting concern.
