Engendering hope is a critical element of effective individual, couple, and family counseling. Without hope, individuals, couples, and families will struggle to find the motivation needed to make the changes necessary to achieve individual and relational satisfaction. Hope is a concept that is at the core of human existence and has application to all of life’s endeavors, including counseling. It has been said that to live without hope is not to live at all because when hope ceases to exist, despair enters and action ceases.
