Clinical records and assessments are not only used by therapists to assist in the treatment of their clientele, but they also can be used by various court systems and attorneys to attempt to sway the decisions of judges and juries. Practitioners may become involved in legal matters especially if there have been prior mental health services provided to the client. Counselors whose practice involves couple and family forensics will likely be called in as expert witnesses, to make treatment recommendations, to provide various therapeutic services, and/or to provide any other information that is requested by judges and other legal representatives.
