Compassion is a state of mind that an individual experiences by gaining awareness of another person’s existence, and intentionally thinking about and desiring his or her well-being, which may lead to pertinent action. To be compassionate is an innate ability of human beings and a characteristic of being human. When an individual, family member, or a friend is in distress, one naturally gravitates toward assisting that person.
