The term Therapeutic Assessment was first applied to a specific model of assessment by Stephen Finn in 1993. Finn was influenced by Constance Fischer, Leonard Handler, and Caroline Purves, other influential clinical psychologists who were developing and working within collaborative assessment methods. He further developed the Therapeutic Assessment model through his work with Mary Tonsager and conducted several clinical trials to provide evidence of the efficacy of this method of assessment. Currently, Therapeutic Assessment is a respected model that has been incorporated into many training programs and postgraduate trainings.
