Suicide

Suicide is the act of ending one’s own life. In the United States, suicide is the 10th leading cause of death for all age groups, and is even higher among specific populations. Worldwide, it is reported that more than 800,000 people die by suicide (the more appropriate term than to “commit suicide”) every year. True statistics for suicide may be even higher than those reported due to stigma surrounding the topic of suicide, which causes underreporting by families and medical professionals.
