Most people probably have their own idea of romance or what is romantic, but there is not one agreed-upon definition in counseling literature or research. A general definition of romance is that it is a state that involves expressing and appreciating demonstrations of emotional and sexual love and attraction in relationships. These expressions can be behaviors, words, time, gifts, or emotions. Romantic gestures are associated with eros, one of four types of love referred to in ancient Greece.
