Reflecting Team

The term reflecting as used in this context is derived from the French-language meaning of the word. In French, réflexion means that something heard is internalized and thought about before a response is given. In the field of marriage and family therapy, reflecting teams are used for systemic family therapy treatment. From behind a one-way mirror, a small group of therapists observe another therapist working with a family. The process includes team members’ discussion of their observations and thoughts in front of the therapist and family. The therapists and family then discuss the team’s conversation among themselves.
