Traditionally, a classroom is a physical room in an educational institution in which learning takes place. Classrooms can be found in educational settings across a broad developmental span, including preschools, colleges, workplaces, and senior centers. The classroom is intended to be an indoor space void of outside distractions. However, classrooms can also be located outside a closed space; some classrooms in Tanzania are in an open field under a tree where several desks and a chalkboard are placed to provide instruction. Online classrooms, learning platforms in which interactive instruction is provided through the Internet, have also become increasingly prevalent.
