The concept of grit, a word commonly used to denote courage and tenacity in the face of hardship, was introduced to the literature of human development by Angela Duckworth and her colleagues to describe a person’s trait level passion and perseverance for long-term goals. Grit is characterized as a somewhat stable individual disposition that is assumed to influence people’s perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors across multiple contexts throughout their lives. Although often treated as a unitary construct, several researchers have found that grit is best represented by two related dimensions.
