Throughout history, two things have been constant. Marginalized people have existed and have, on some level, been persecuted. In addition, transgender people have existed throughout history, although they have not always been recognized as such. Today, some are saying that transgender rights are the new civil rights movement. Although this may be the case, transgender people have been a part of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer (LGBQ) rights movement for many years.
