MSNBC

Seen as a response to the then all-news cable channel, CNN, MSNBC went live in July of 1996 after 2 years of planning. The channel was joint venture between Microsoft and NBC that lasted for more than a decade. MSNBC is now part of NBCUniversal. From its beginnings, MSNBC has been willing to change its looks and content, leading to the perception that the channel was more opinion-journalism, rather than factual-journalism. Even so, the channel managed to beat both CNN and the nascent FOX News to major events on the world stage, such as their coverage of the crash of flight TWA 800, breaking the story almost 10 minutes before the other two networks.
