Journalism in the Federal Republic of Germany has both a long tradition and a contemporary foundation that places it consistently at the top of the list of countries favorable to journalists and press freedom.

With a population of 83.1 million, the Federal Republic of Germany is the largest country on the European continent. A founding member of the European Union, Germany has maintained a robust economy and attracts immigrants from Europe and beyond. Twenty percent of the population are of immigrant background.
