Euronews is a pan-European news channel aimed at supporting the larger concept of a European identity. Although it is probably the most international and transnational news project in European history, it is not the first one. This entry discusses the history, primary purposes, and recent expansion of Euronews.


Transnational media can be traced back to at least the 18th century when an international news network disseminated news across the continent. Before then, some of the news pamphlets published in cities like Amsterdam and Antwerp in the 17th century were translated and exported to other European markets, including England, France, and Spain.
