Newsgathering and distribution are considered key functions of the mass media responding to the human need for awareness of surrounding events. This need is further intensified in the course of migration, as immigrants reach a new and unfamiliar environment. Information about events in the host country indeed flows regularly from media in the host language, but most immigrants cannot avail themselves of it because they have not mastered this language and therefore require their own news sources.
