Convergence

Convergence is the merging of media, for example, the merging of newspapers, radio, and television on the Web. It also includes the merging of characteristics associated with traditional one-way media with characteristics of online and social media such as interactivity, serving different content to different users based on algorithms of users’ behavior, and links to other stories and sources of content. There are many dimensions to convergence, including business consolidation, technology integration, functional convergence of news services, convergence on social media, audience fragmentation, geographic convergence, and changes in government regulations that make convergence possible.
