CNN was a big gamble when Ted Turner started the first superstation. The network was—and as of 2021 still is—headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. What made it super was the acquisition of satellite time that had been allocated to ABC. This allowed his Cable News Network to be seen anywhere in the world. CNN proved itself over a few high-profile stories that were reported in depth and in both live and recorded formats.
