Travel Journalism

Travel journalism is broadly defined as any communication about a voyage outside one’s immediate vicinity. An alternate, slightly more narrowed definition of travel journalism is any piece of consumable writing or media in which traveling plays a role in the story. By this definition, a story called “The Ten Best Coffee Shops to Visit on Your Portland Vacation” is travel journalism, whereas a story titled “The Business of Portland’s Mail-Order Coffee Scene” would not be. The former aims to inform travelers about activities to engage in while traveling, whereas the latter is more focused on the business side of the coffee industry and not aimed at potential travelers.
