RT and Sputnik

Sputnik and RT are state-funded Russian media outlets usually described as propaganda outlets controlled by their government to improve its image, especially that of President Vladimir Putin. Both Sputnik and RT maintain websites, but RT is a television-based operation with a web presence. This entry describes the history and growth of both operations, and how they figured into investigations of Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign.


The Sputnik name may appear familiar to many people who grew up during the Cold War.
