News Corporation

News Corporation was an international media conglomerate originating in Australia but headquartered in New York City. Incorporated by Rupert Murdoch in 1979 as a holding company for his Adelaide, Australia-based News Limited, it would become the mogul’s primary vehicle in a decades-long global campaign of media acquisitions and start-ups. While not the largest or highest earning media company of its time, News Corp. attracted sustained critical scrutiny as the epitome of broader trends toward consolidation and globalization within the media industry.
