Homework is a general term used to refer to school tasks assigned to students for completion outside of school hours. Typically, students will take books and assignments home to finish them after starting the assignment at school or to practice new concepts (e.g., by doing additional math problems, correcting sentence errors) at home in order to anchor the concepts and become adept at using newly acquired skills. The U.S. Department of Education distinguishes types of homework. Practice homework is meant to reinforce learning and help the student master specific skills.
