Family-Based Interventions

Children with a developmental disorder (DD), which includes children with an intellectual disability (ID) and children with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD), are at increased risk for behavioral disorders or other mental health problems compared with their typically developing counterparts. Rates of mental health problems are estimated to be between 25% and 50% for children and adolescents with developmental disorders, whereas in contrast, the rate of mental health difficulties in the typically developing population is approximately 13% to 20%.
