Differential Ability Scales

The Differential Ability Scales–Second Edition (DAS-II) is a standardized testing instrument that is a useful tool for psychologists and related professionals as it provides a comprehensive assessment of the cognitive and learning abilities of individuals with ages spanning from toddlerhood to late adolescence. Although the DAS-II is technically not considered an intelligence test for several reasons that are beyond the scope of this entry, this clinical instrument nonetheless adeptly measures an array of specific and separate cognitive abilities similar to many widely accepted measures of intelligence (e.g., Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children [WISC]). As such, the DAS-II can be a valuable instrument in assessing the constellation of cognitive strengths and weaknesses of individuals, including those diagnosed with intellectual disability or developmental disorders.
