Autism Spectrum Disorder: School Consultation

School consultation is defined as the act of requesting information, advice, and expertise about a particular topic, problem, or concern occurring in schools or with students. Consultation among all internal staff or team members is typical for students with special needs and is considered best practice. At times, however, the knowledge of the internal team is not sufficient to address the needs of the particular situation or student. At this point, school personnel determine that additional expertise is needed to help solve the problem and an external consultant is contacted.
