History of Industrial and Organizational Psychology in Chile

Industrial and organizational (I-O) psychology in Chile evolved, over the last 50 years, from the work of a small group of scholars and consultants who entered the field to address the needs of modern and increasingly complex Chilean organizations. In what follows, we narrate the origins of I-O psychology in Chile and then review the development of a few topics that, in our view, have shaped the practice and teaching of I-O psychology in our country—organizational development, personnel selection, training, coaching and individual development, and competency models. We finalize this entry highlighting two emerging trends in the field of I-O psychology in Chile, namely, positive psychology and evidence based I-O psychology.
