Robert M. Guion was born on September 14, 1924, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to his mother Carolyn and father Leroy Guion. His father was a salesman who recognized the value of his products and services and took great pride in delivering them. His mother was primarily a housewife but also ran a kitchen for candy maker and became a cake decorator for a local bakery. Robert grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he graduated from South Side High School. Shortly after graduating, he was drafted and served much of World War II in Italy.
