Introduction

Since 1990, global political instability has increased in scale and variety. The impact of political instability has been very uneven regionally, with parts of the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia suffering most acutely. Globally, heightened levels of political instability have significantly increased risks for most types of organizations working internationally, have led to the routinization of political and security risk analysis in organizational planning and culture, and have resulted in new and restrictive security protocols within organizations. For certain types of organizations, heightened levels of global political instability have also produced new markets and demands for their services.
