The Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness project (GLOBE) was initiated in the early 1990s by Robert J. House to test relationships among societal culture, organizational culture, and leadership. An international team consisting of more than 250 researchers have worked on the various phases of the project since its inception. The first major publication was in 2004, and this book presented quantitative evidence documenting the hypothesized relationships among organizational culture, societal culture, and culturally endorsed attributes of leadership. The primary source for the 2004 book was questionnaire responses from approximately 17,000 middle managers who were citizens of one of 62 societies.
