Employee performance recognition is a reward mechanism that allows employers to provide positive feedback to those who contribute not only to the task but also on a personal level in the workplace. However, the term recognition differs from reward in the sense that employee recognition initiatives are about highlighting positive workplace behaviors that go beyond what is expected of workers, while reward connotes a more direct exchange, such as paying a salary to people who do their expected jobs. There are many ways in which employees can be recognized, and previous research has shown that the benefits of implementing employee recognition initiatives outweigh the costs.
