Definitions of virtual teams vary slightly, but all of them minimally state that a virtual team is a group of people working together who rely on communications technologies (rather than physical face-to-face contact) to complete their work. Most definitions also include geographic dispersion of group members, although others argue that it is possible to have a virtual team in the same location whose members work together exclusively (or mostly) electronically. This is because even colocated teams can rely heavily on communications technologies, and some teams might even be temporally separated, with some doing a day shift and others working at night within the same office.
