Talent management is an organized and integrated effort in an organization to attract, develop, deploy, and retain the external and internal talent needed for organizational success and sustainability. This includes a systematic approach to many human resource (HR) functions such as recruiting, assimilating, staffing, evaluating, compensating, engaging, developing, and retaining talent at all levels in an organization. Talent management efforts can either reside in a single group within human resources or exist as directives across multiple company subfunctions. More advanced organizations have a formal talent management strategy that is linked to their business strategy. The key difference between talent management and human resources in general is the specific emphasis on talent versus efforts aimed at the organization’s resources more broadly.
