Aspiring human resource (HR) professionals need to look no further to begin their professional journey than the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). SHRM is the largest professional association for HR professionals or other individuals who work in HR-related areas. SHRM has been “leading people and organizations” spanning 8 decades. Originally called the American Society for Personnel Administration (ASPA), SHRM was founded in 1948 in Ohio by a small group of HR leaders who were trying to understand recruitment, hiring, training, and compensation of personnel administrators.
