Regression analysis is a statistical procedure for estimating the direction, strength, and significance of the relationships between independent (or predictor) variables and dependent (or criterion) variables. It offers advantages over correlational analysis in that it allows analysts to derive an equation to predict a criterion variable from a (or several) predictor variable(s). This analytic technique is often used for prediction and forecasting, which is of particular interest in industrial and organizational (I-O) psychology, in which researchers and practitioners are often interested in predicting key criterion variables (e.g., employee performance and job attitudes) from important predictor variables (e.g., intelligence and personality variables).
