Emotional Impact of Communication Disorders

As Speech–Language pathologists and audiologists treat individuals with communication disorders, many have questioned the emotional and psychological impact of having communication disorders on individuals. Over the past 50 years, a number of studies have explored the impact of communication disorders on the psychological well-being of the person with the disorder. These studies also viewed the impact on the family of the person with the communication disorder. This impact can be significant emotionally as well as socially and financially.
