This review addresses the need to appreciate the generic nature of the term behaviorism. Behaviorism has many meanings. The classical conditioning of Ivan Pavlov is not the operant conditioning of B. F. Skinner, even though they both investigate human behavior. A clear understanding of the differences in the history, application, and potential of the various schools of thought is important. This entry discusses the historical and current application of the philosophical science referred to as radical behaviorism and its implementation via the experimental analysis of behavior (EAB) to human communication disorders.
