Writing is the process of representing thoughts and ideas through a visual/textual modality such that the writer’s intentions are made clear to the intended audience. As a process, writing reflects an ability to control, integrate, and manage all the active cognitive processes of composing simultaneously to accomplish the particular writing goals. The result is typically a written product that can be examined according to various standards of effective writing. Engagement in writing goes beyond mere transmission of information or communication in that it accomplishes cognitive transformations and the internalization of various forms of language and models of thinking.
