Stuttering is a communication disorder characterized by a disruption in the forward flow of speech, which can take the form of either repeating, prolonging, or remaining stuck on a syllable, word, or part of a word. For some, signs of physical tension and struggle may accompany these disruptions in the forward flow of speech. The term secondary behaviors is often used to describe the presence of any tension or struggle behaviors associated with a moment of stuttering.
