Prognosis

A prognosis is a well-informed estimate or prediction of future outcomes. This term may also refer to the process of arriving at such estimates (something that is often called prognostication). It is commonly expressed in terms of likelihood or probability. In the context of communication disorders it may refer to the probability of such things as achievement of a developmental or recovery milestone, or achievement of (or regaining) typical or normal status. Such prognoses may include the outcome likelihood both with and without intervention (i.e., by comparison to the natural history of the condition), or with one intervention versus another.
