Helicopter Parenting

It has been suggested that Millennials are the most protected generation of children in U.S. history. Different researchers define generational cohorts differently, but the Millennials were born roughly between 1982 and 1995. Moreover, their parents appear to be more involved with their student children than has been the case for previous generations. The term ‘helicopter parents’ was coined in the United States to describe the behaviour of parents who keep a close watch on their students whilst studying at college or university; they ‘hover’ over them and are ready to intervene when their children have difficulties.
