Institute of International Education

The Institute of International Education (IIE) is a nonprofit organization that was established in 1919 to facilitate international exchange, collaboration, mutual understanding, and diplomacy among foreign nations. IIE’s mission highlights efforts in these areas: advancing scholarship, building economies, and promoting access to opportunity. IIE focuses on developing the knowledge and skills needed for the workforce by providing educational and cultural exchange programs in collaboration with the U.S. Departments of State and Defense, such as the Fulbright Program and Language Flagship program. IIE also partners with other government entities, businesses, and donors to empower women to pursue higher education, promote STEM education, provide scholarships, and facilitate student and scholar mobility, particularly for those who are affected by conflict in their home countries.
